Project timing for business and industry is critical and must be anticipated and monitored in order for the best outcome. The city of Decatur is mindful of this need and provides a timing summation for most any type of project. Once a project has been decided it is best to contact the city development services department to come in to discuss the specifics of your project to make sure your and the city’s needs are met.

Voluntary Annexations

Can take up to 60 days to process. Petitions go before P&Z and City Council.

Involuntary/Unilateral Annexations

Can take up to 90 days to process. Cases go before both P&Z and City Council.

Zoning/Land Use (Straight Zoning/PD/SUP/Comprehensive Plan Amendment)

Applications take 60-90 days to process. Applications go before both P&Z and City Council.

Subdivision Applications (Preliminary/Final/Development/Replats)

Can take 60-90 days. Applications go before both P&Z and City Council.

Subdivision Applications – Amended Plats/Minor Plats

Can take up to 30 days to process. Administrative Approval only.

Residential Permits

Generally take 3-5 working days to review. Issue date/timing depends on completeness of submittal and if one or more re-submittals are required. Should not be more than 30 days. May require variance to P&Z/CC and/or ZBA as required.

Multi-family & Non-Residential Permits

Generally take 14 working days to review. Issue date/timing depends on completeness of submittal and if one or more re-submittals are required. Should not take more than 60 days. May require variance to P&Z/CC and/or ZBA as required.
