Many local cities saw sales tax collections surge through January when compared to 2020. Decatur’s sales tax payment jumped from $336,026 in March 2020 to $380,070, a 13.10 percent increase. Off its 1.5-cent levy, the city has brought in $1.295 million from the first three disbursements of 2021, a 10.88 percent hike from the same period in 2021.

“January and February are a lot of times our slowest months of the year. It’s encouraging to see one of historically slower months turn out this well. It’s a good sign,” said Decatur City Manager Brett Shannon.
